All 11 roles — abilities & strategy
Mafia Night supports 11 distinct roles across three teams. The ideal balance is roughly 25% Mafia — one Mafia or Godfather per four players — with the remaining slots filled by Village power roles and Civilians. Neutral roles (Jester, Serial Killer) add chaos and are best introduced after the group is comfortable with the basics.
The Mafia know each other from the start. Each night they silently choose a Village player to eliminate. The Godfather leads the faction and appears innocent to the Detective.
You wake up at night with other Mafia members to choose someone to eliminate.
Leader of the Mafia. You appear innocent when investigated by the Detective.
Village roles range from the uninformed Civilian to powerful investigators and protectors. The Village wins through careful observation, deduction, and successful day-phase votes.
Each night, you can protect one player from being eliminated.
Each night, you can investigate one player to learn if they are Mafia.
You can eliminate one player at night, but choose wisely!
Your vote counts as two votes during the day phase.
Each night, you receive a vision about two players.
You can protect one player at night, and will die in their place if attacked.
You are an ordinary villager. Use your voice and vote to find the Mafia!
Neutral roles play for themselves. They can disrupt both Mafia and Village strategies — and they win on their own unique conditions.
Your goal is to get yourself eliminated by the village during the day!
You work alone and can kill one player each night.
